WEEK OF MAY 26-29  FINAL EVALUATIONS AND CLOSING OF GRADE BOOK 

This is our last post of the year. It's been really nice to have you all in our Robotics Magnet.We are going to take a break and start stronger next year. I wish you all a super Summer. BE GOOD! 

Grade book closing and Final grades: I will be closing gradebook this week. Please make sure you are done with all assignments and have taken the final quiz. Study the manual of the game of your preference (VEX IQ or VRC VEX, and then take the corresponding quiz. Here are the links to the manuals and to the quizzes:  VEX IQ MANUAL  or  VEX EDR MANUAL ,  VEX IQ RISE ABOVE QUIZ  or  VEX EDR CHANGE UP QUIZ 

BONUS: If for a reason you do not take the quiz, you will get your current average grade instead. For example: You have an "A" average grade for this nine weeks, and you do not take the final quiz, I will input "A" for your final test grade as a bonus. If you don't have an A or a B average for this class so far, I highly recommend you take the quiz to improve your overall grade.

Virtual Programming Practice:

Go to the Vex VR website: https://vr.vex.com/

Open "file" menu, select "Example Programs" and click on "Drivetrain" on the top menu. Select "Forward and Backwards" In this example you will see the code used for the robot to move forward and backwards to move for a specified distance in mm. Use this as an example to do the following programming practice.

Code the following 3 things:

Level 1: Program the VR Robot to drive forward 3 grid squares. (Each square in the Grid Map measures 200mm by 200mm). Save your program.

Level 2: Program the VR Robot to drive forward 6 grid squares, turn around, and drive back 6 grid squares. Save your program.

Level 3: Program the VR Robot to drive in a square. Make each side of the square 3 grid squares long. Save your program.

When saving each program use the following convention: Last name, name/Practice Level (1, 2 or 3) Check the tutorial "Naming and saving your project" if you need assistance with this step.

Upload Program:  Please upload ONLY your LEVEL 3 program. Go to TEAMS and click on ASSIGNMENTS VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING PRACTICE UPLOAD. Follow the procedures posted there to upload your program.

Note: If you encounter any problem when uploading your program, take a picture of it and upload it to Assingments as a picture. If you still experience problems, please open your program and SHARE it with me.

This Thursday and Friday all teachers will have Professional Developmet sessions. I was planning to have meetings with you during those days but we will have to postpone until next week.

  • We will continue instruction using online resources and remote learning platforms. You will be using Remind, Teams and Zoom in this and in many of  your classes. I will post a REMIND notice when your class is scheduled a "meeting" during your class period this week.
  • In the meantime I will be posting notes in REMIND for you to let me know when you are ready and finished with your Tinkercad Lessons and with your final 3D piece. Those two assignments will be graded.
  • Due to the circumsntances, we will not be able to 3D print our pieces, but we will be able to share and present during the meetings, so get ready to present your product in one minute!

  • Due to the circumstances, we will continue instruction using online resources. But, guess what? We had already initiated our online work before this all happended. So let's just continue and finish it! 
  • All students designed a non-pre-existing piece of VEX or VEX IQ. (Grades are already in the grade book)
  • Using TINKERCAD all students should complete all training lessons (WE STARTED 2 WEEKS AGO)
  • All students should design the piece suitable to be 3D printed.

Great Job: Our ROCKBOTS and ROKGBOTS competed at Coral Park HS and Howard D. McMillan during this long weekend. Two VEX teams (9393A and B) qualified for States for their winning of the Excellence Award and Team Finalist amongst 54 High School Teams.  In addition 9393A  qualified for the CREATE VRC Robotics International Championship in Iowa and 9393 G got the Judges Award. Our IQ team in a spectacular recovery made into the tournament finals.  Rockbots ASSEMBLE for the weekend!
